Dying on the Edge (2001)

This 2001 flick, Dying on the Edge, hits a lot of the checkboxes for a classic late night thriller.  We have an ex-cop, John Fuller (John Heard) struggling with his alcoholism while trying to keep it together with a gig as a private insurance investigator.  Years earlier his kid was killed in front of him in a hit and run accident, so he lives in a bottle and only crawls out once in a while to make ends meet with a gig.  His latest job involves a couple of up and coming record producers who everything they touch seems to turn to gold records, so they want to hit the big time and decide to borrow some money from a mobster to get their own studio...  So when they turn up dead on the side of the road in a seemingly tame car wreck, it's up to the depressed ex-cop and insurance man on the case to determine if this was a classic late night drunken accident, or if it was a mob hit done exceptionally well!  Things only get more complicated when he finds out that the loan shark is the beneficiary on a seemingly huge insurance contract for the two guys killed, so the plot thickens and the story line seems to intersect with John's own personal story!  Drunk ex-cops, mob bosses, record executives doing drugs and sleeping with hotties, it's got plenty of ammo for you to enjoy!  Especially when you get your eyes on Kristin Herold's rack in a recording studio romp!
