The art world is more cutthroat than outsiders might expect. It's impossible to get that necessary gallery show and then there’s the question of how to differentiate your work from the hoard of other starving artists. Well, the protagonist in The Next Big Thing (2001) has that licked. He develops a new name and a more interesting story to hang on his work and suddenly fame comes pouring in. But when will his scam be uncovered à la James Frey and A Million Little Pieces? That's the tension in this very funny movie, but the real draw is Kim Merritt, who has a brief scene as a nude model in art class. Now that's a masturbation-piece!
